The Banglijian Ziv-206 is the newer, bigger brother of the very popular Banglijian Ziv-201 hearing amplifier. Where the Ziv-201 has established a reputation in the hearing amplifier space, the Ziv-206 has to start from scratch. Or does it? At first sight, it has a remarkable resemblance to the Ziv-201P, the powerful version of this company’s staple.

The most distinctive feature of the Banglijian Ziv-206 is its power. With a 53 dB peak gain, this hearing amplifier is suitable for people suffering from moderate to severe hearing loss. Most models (especially in this price range) will combat moderate hearing loss at best.

Another key feature is that the Ziv-206 is rechargeable, like all other Banglijian models. This means you don’t have to shop for batteries, and you never run out. While you only need a two-hour charge for a 24-hour battery, you don’t have to anxiously time your charges. Banglijian batteries are equipped with a ‘smart charger’, meaning you don’t ruin the battery after charging it too long once. The USB cable means that you also don’t have to worry about losing your charger. It can be charged just as easily as a mobile phone.
The upgraded chip inside the Ziv-206 ensures you have the best possible sound quality (again, in the price range). Because Banglijian regularly updates their models, you don’t run the risk of buying outdated hardware with subpar sound quality.
Who is this hearing amplifier for?
As we mentioned in the above paragraph, the Banglijian Ziv-206 combats moderate to severe hearing loss. This means it’s particularly well-suited for two groups of people: those looking for an upgrade after their first hearing amplifier and people who should have bought their first hearing amplifier a while ago.
How well does the Banglijian Ziv-206 work?
The Ziv-206 ticks many boxes. Not only does the upgraded chip help you get a good sound quality, you also get four channels, five volume settings, and three listening programs that are built in. These listening programs let you switch between everyday, moderate noise reduction, and noisy. The adaptive layered noise reduction and acoustic feedback cancellation help clear up the sound.
You can wear this hearing amplifier in either ear, but it’s not fully ambidextrous. Switching ears takes a while and means you need to replace the listening tube. In practice, it means one hearing amplifier may do for a while, but you can’t just switch ears in a conversation.
Lastly, Banglijian offers great customer service. With non-American companies, service can differ per provider, but Banglijian is lauded for their responses. Their team responds fast, are willing to work with you, and the products come with a good warranty.
What’s not to like about the Banglijian Ziv-206?
There aren’t any real downsides to the Banglijian Ziv-206. The four channels it features aren’t revolutionary, but very acceptable for its price (generally below $150). Its biggest drawback is that the model as a whole feels somewhat redundant. The Banglijian Ziv-206 is essentially the same model as the Ziv-201P, but with different volume buttons. Are the volume buttons an improvement? Yes. Are they worth the 20% price increase? I’ll leave that up to you, but I would have hoped for something extra to create a bigger difference between the Banglijian Ziv-206 and the Banglijian Ziv-201P.
Hearing amplifiers that are good alternatives
That also means the Banglijian Ziv-201P is a great alternative for the Ziv-206. You essentially get the same model, and save around $20 by picking old-fashioned volume buttons. For people looking to get a better model overall, the ZVOX VB20 hearing aids might offer a good alternative. This model is a bit pricier, but gives you an upgrade on all fronts.

Should you buy the Banglijian Ziv-206?

The most important feature for the Banglijian Ziv-201 is that it is rechargeable. This will save you a lot of money in the long run, as you don’t have to keep buying hearing aid batteries. It will also save you all the times scrambling for batteries or the late-night pharmacy runs. With the included USB cable, you can charge your hearing amplifier anywhere. If you prefer your nightstand or side table, the power adapter allows you to charge it the ‘old-fashioned’ way.
The battery takes two hours to charge for 24 hours of use. While it can safely be charged for longer than two hours, the long-term battery life is extended when you charge it for two hours at a time.
Another key feature of the Banglijian Ziv-201 is that it has two noise cancelling settings. By pressing the power button briefly, you switch between the two settings. Each setting comes with a tone, so you know when the noise cancelling setting has been changed. Because you can use just one finger to change the setting, you avoid the annoying ‘ringing’ sound that comes when you cover your ear with your hand.

Who is the Ziv-201 for?
The Banglijian Ziv-201 is made for people with a moderate hearing loss between 25-70 decibel. A moderate hearing loss means that understanding conversations takes a lot of effort and the volume on the television needs to be raised considerably. Because the Ziv-201 comes individually, it is best to use it in your lesser ear, or order a quantity of two if you want a pair.
How well does the Ziv-201 work?
The Banglijian Ziv-201 works just as promised. As with all hearing aids, it takes some getting used to getting things just right, and switching the noise cancelling feature has a bit of a learning curve. Other than the two noise cancelling settings, there are five different volume levels. This means a combined total of ten different settings.
The Ziv-201 comes in a sleek package and includes everything you need to get started. There are three sound tubes and six ear domes, a cleaning brush, everything you need to charge the amplifier, and a user manual. Everything comes in a shockproof case, so you can rest assured that everything reaches your house in working condition.
What’s not to like about the Banglijian?
Although the overall performance of the Banglijan Ziv-201 is great for people with moderate hearing loss, there are some drawbacks to these hearing amplifiers. Even with the noise cancelling feature, background noises can still be a problem. This is of course a problem with many hearing amplifiers, and the Banglijian is no exception.
Something else that’s worth noting is that the lower settings seem to work better than the higher volume settings. Loud noises are sometimes amplified as well, which can be unsettling when you’re not expecting it. If you generally need your hearing aids on the highest volume, it might be worth looking into a hearing amplifier for severe hearing loss.
Although it’s not a reflection on the hearing amplifier, Banglijian as a company does not have a website, and the user manuals for the Banglijian Ziv-201 and other models can’t be found online. It doesn’t affect this model, but is a tiny downside. Their customer service is very responsive and available.

Hearing amplifiers that are good alternatives for the Banglijian Ziv-201
Because the Ziv-201 works best in the low volume settings, people who have needed a hearing aid for a little while longer, should consider the Neosonic BTE Hearing Amplifier. This hearing amplifier misses some of the neat features of the Banglijian Ziv-201, but packs more of a punch when it comes to its decibel boost. The Banglijian Ziv-201P could be a good choice for more developed hearing loss, but also has additional options for the same price.
Another alternative is the Ziv’s little brother, the Banglijian BLJ-109. Since its 2019 update, it boosts a longer battery life, improved sound quality and a very competitive price.

The difference between the Banglijian Ziv-201 and the Banglijian Ziv-201A
Aside from the Banglijian Ziv-201, the company also manufactures the Ziv-201A. Although the devices are nearly identical, the Ziv-201A has a slimmer design that might work better for people with glasses. As a downside, the Ziv-201A is not ambidextrous, so you can only use each hearing amplifier in one ear.
