Directions:
Take U.S.395 north from Chewelah or south from Kettle Falls to parallel most of the river. The upstream portion of the river is accessible via Highway 231, which turns west off U.S.395 about 5 miles south of Chewelah.

Fishing the Colville River:
The Colville has long had a reputation for producing some hefty brown trout, and they are still there, though catching them isn’t always easy. The trout seem to be getting wiser all the time, and complicate matters a little more, much of the river runs through private property, limiting angler access. But if your willing to work at your fishing and to cultivate a few property owners, you might be rewarded with a trout of 5# or more. If you’re fly-fishing, try a grasshopper pattern of some kind.
It is important to note that fishing in this location, in fact the entire west shore of Rufus Woods requires a Colville Tribal fishing permit. A one-day permit costs $7.50; a three-day permit costs $18.00; a seven-day permit costs $20.00 and a seasonal permit is $35.00.
