How to open and close Control Center
Most Brother models offer support for macOS Catalina (macOS v10.15.x). The charts below indicate that models offer support for macOS v10.15.x including drivers and utilities available for download. If you are using a recently released operating system on your computer, download and install the latest driver from the Downloads section.

- Brother ControlCenter is the free software that comes with your Brother scanner. So why would you be looking for an alternative? There are two main reasons people look for an alternative: ControlCenter no longer works on their operating system (like on macOS Big Sur).
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Preferences, then click Dock & Menu Bar. Open Dock & Menu Bar preferences for me. Click a section in the sidebar to see items that are always in Control Center, or that you can add. Control Center: The items in this section are always shown in Control Center; you can’t remove them. Select an item in the sidebar to see a preview of it in Control Center on the right.
- Brother SupportCenter App will provide you how to setup your Brother products, manuals, FAQ & Troubleshooting, and contact to Brother customer service. You can also check remaining level of supplies. Note: Some menues are available only to limited models. This App will provide you following menu. For more detail, please refer to each description.
iPhone X and later
- To open Control Center, swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen.
- To close Control Center, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or tap the screen.
If you swipe too close to the top-center of your screen, you might open Notification Center instead of Control Center.

- To open Control Center, swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen.
- To close Control Center, tap the top of the screen or press the Home button.

I have a MFC-8660DN multi-function printer. There's a piece of software called the Brother Control Center that lets you initiate scans from your desktop and route the scan to a specific application. To get it...
- Visit this Brother site.
- Choose 'USA'
- Choose your model number (MFC-8660DN)
- Choose 'United States'
- Choose 'Drivers' then 'Mac OS X (10.5)' then 'English'
- Then choose the 'Scanner Driver' and download it, then install.
- You'll have to restart your computer and a dialogue will come up. You can have the printer associated by name or IP address. I chose IP address. Then I added a name of my computer so that you can use the printer interface to send things to a particular computer.

Update - A few weeks later I started having trouble accessing the scanning capabilities from the Mac. I spoke with Brother Support and they took me thru the following re-installation steps, which solved the problem.

Brother Control Center 64 Bit
- Delete the 'Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/Library/Preferences/Brother' folder.
- Delete the 'Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/Brother TWAIN.ds' file.
- Delete the 'Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/ControlCenter' and 'Library/Printers/Brother/Utilities/DeviceSelector' folders.
- Restart computer.
- Empty your trash.
- Re-install the Control Center following the steps above.
