In the early Fall of 2016, Apple came out with their newest adaptation of Final Cut Pro X, version 10.3. This new version is a bit different than v.10.2.3, the version we have at NewTV, but comes with some pretty handy features and is more streamlined than its predecessor. Some may even say that it works more like a professional editing system! I guess Apple is finally listening to their consumers. Maybe I should take back my comments about FCPX being “iMovie plus”…

I must to go back to Final Cut Pro version 10.2.3. Now i have the newest version 10.3.3 and i don't have a Time Machine backup. Is there way to go back to FCPX 10.2.3? I only have a trial version 10.2.3. In February 2016, Apple released Final Pro Cut 10 Version 10 two three. Now the vast majority of this release consists of performance upgrades, and bug fixes. Just as was the case in Final Cut Pro 10 Version 10 two two, and 10 two one. Final Cut Pro X version 10.2.3 is a free 2.83GB update for current users, while new customers can purchase the software for $299.99 from the Mac App Store. Motion, Apple's Final Cut Pro X graphics. Oct 30, 2018 I recently upgraded my desktop Mac to Mojave. Now, FinalCut Pro X won't work (it's x'd out in my doc).

This short video tutorial shows how to create and use Smart Collections in Apple's Final Cut Pro v10.2.3. Created by Rigel Seybert for the Cinema Studies Program. This video shows you how to update to Final Cut Pro 10.2.3 and briefly covers what the update includes. Final Cut Pro 10.2.3 Update:. Customizable Default E.

Below is my list of the top 10 differences between Final Cut Pro x 10.2.3 and Final Cut Pro X 10.3:

1. Redesigned Interface

a.Version 10.3 has a darker, flatter interface that matches Apple’s new sleek, modern designs. Ooooo. Aaaaaa.

2. Workspace Layouts

10.2.3

a. You can now create your own workspace with an original name, use the built-in workspace presets like Color & Effects, (gives you colorscopes), or use your default workspace. You can find these new workspace layouts in the top option bar above the interface.

3. Toggling Workspaces

a. Along with being able to create your own workspace layout, you can also toggle parts of your workspace on and off, creating more space to work when you’re not using them. You can hide and show the Brower, Timeline (Project), or Inspector by clicking the workspace toggle button in the upper right-hand corner of the interface.

4. Relocated Browser Buttons

a. The browser space is now much bigger, so you have more room to navigate through your options. With all this added space, the titles, generators, music and photos browser buttons have moved from the bottom right-hand corner of the interface to the top left-hand corner, allowing for more space in the project work area. These buttons have also condensed from four buttons down to just two. Once you choose one of these buttons, you now have to click on each option in a dropdown menu. Final Cut Pro 7 and Adobe Premiere editors will find this feature very familiar. The Effect and Transition browser buttons are still in the same location down in the lower-right corner.

5. Secondary Displays

a. Lucky enough to have an edit computer with two monitors? You now have the option of sending the Timeline, Viewer or Browser to your second display. Located in the top-right corner, click and choose a section to send to your second display and click again to move it back to your main display. Easy peasy.

6. Enhanced Roles

a. We had roles in the last version of Final Cut Pro X but now you are able to organize them into “lanes”, with the most options residing in the audio lanes. To view each audio role in its horizontal space on the timeline, toggle between “Show Audio Lanes” and “Hide Audio Lanes” in the bottom, right-hand corner of the Index. There are a few things you should be aware of when working with these roles:

i. You can move audio sections horizontally in your timeline, but not vertically into other lanes.

ii. Audio lanes also show audio that is connected to video clips. For example, if you add a clip to your timeline that includes audio, you will see the audio as a part of that clip when the audio roles are hidden, but when they are shown, that audio will move into the dialogue lane (or whichever role you assign it to) and you now have the ability to edit the audio independently of the clip without detaching it. Yahoo!

iii. You can also reorder these lanes by clicking and dragging them to a different location in the Index.

b. There are also many new colors to choose from. By hitting “edit roles” you can change the color that you attribute to each audio or video role.

c. Another new feature is “focusing” on roles. If you just want to look at one type of role, go to the Index and click on the small circle to the right of the role. All of the role types except the one you have chosen will compress, making it easier to see the one you are working with.

d. And if you’re a super organized person, you can even add sub-roles to your roles! Mmm sub-roles...Gosh, all this editing is making me hungry... Ahem. Right. Focus, Katie.

7. Inspector

a. Instead of seeing the original “Video”, “Audio” and “Info” text labels at the top of the inspector, these are now represented with icons.

b. You can now also double-click the top of the inspector to expand it to the entire right side of the interface. Now, when you expand all of your attributes, you no longer need to scroll up and down. It’s all right there for you. When you’re done, double-click on the inspector again to collapse it.

8. Remove attributes

a. In version 10.2.3 and earlier, you have been able to paste the same attributes to many clips at once. However, in order to undo that, you would have to remove each one individually via the inspector. Now to remove these attributes, just highlight a group of clips, go to “Edit”, “Remove Attributes”, and check off the attributes you want to remove. (note: Make sure the attributes you want to keep are un-checked!)

9. Flow Transition

Pro

a. The new Flow Transition is a pretty nifty feature that allows you to have a smoother transition between jump cuts, making them seem like one seamless clip. Just search for this in your transitions, drop it between two clips and violà! It looks like you never even made a cut. (Note: If you are a premiere user, this is very similar to the “morph cut”.)

10. Continuous Playback

a. In the earlier versions of Final Cut Pro X, you were only able to watch one clip at a time in the browser. Now if you want to review all of your clips in sequential order without stopping, you can check off the “continuous playback” option, located in the top, right-hand corner of your browser.

I hope this list gives all of you a quick intro into the new features of Final Cut Pro X version 10.3. Keep in mind that these are my personal top 10 differences but there are still more in store. •Customizable Default Video/Audio Effect
Now with audio and video as separate customizable effects. The default audio and video effects are EQ and color corrector out of the box. So if you happen to have a different favorite audio or video filter you’d like to choose as your default and apply via a keyboard shortcut you’ll be all set. Keyboard shortcuts are ⌥⌘E for Add Default Audio Effect, and ⌥E for Add Default Video Effect.

•Faster Performance for Libraries on a SAN
This is a mighty feat of engineering that has been desired since Final Cut X was first released way back in 2011. If you’re not working in a shared environment with other editors this is not something you care about.

This feature opens up huge new workflow potential and is a major leap forward toward X’s viability in more enterprise grade post/broadcast environments.

However if you do work across a SAN, this is really critical. It now means Libraries can be kept on a SAN volume without the performance hit normally associated with it that forces many users to keep Libraries on local volumes. This feature opens up huge new workflow potential and is a major leap forward toward X’s viability in more enterprise grade post/broadcast environments.

Timecode Display is (finally!) Fixed in El Capitan
Ok this one may not be that sexy. But if you’re using X day in and day out in the latest version of OS X you’re looking at the TC display constantly. You want this…

•Canon XF-AVC import from the Canon C300 Mark II
Canon’s C300 cameras are incredibly popular in the episodic, broadcast and event videographer world. The more native support in FCPX the better.

•Ability to Share video to different YouTube accounts
If you’re on a shared system or you run multiple YouTube accounts, it’s great to not have to re-enter share credentials every time you want to export direct. For the YouTube stars of the world this will be a major time-saver.

•4K Support for more current Apple Devices
Again, another no-brainer for those of us who like to screen completed projects looking their best on iPhone/iPad. Having native Share support directly in FCPX means optimal image quality format. The iPad Pro’s screen is especially well suited to showing off 4K originated footage. It’s truly a golden age for playback.

•Support for more Video Formats
Yep, let’s rejoice in AVC-LongG, XAVC, and XF-AVC. These are formats used in HD/4K for cameras from Canon, Panasonic and Sony. The camera makers constantly like to reinvent new flavors of codecs for their gear. Wish they’d all just get along to ProRes and be happy but until that day comes let’s shoot up cheers to see support in FCPX catching up to what the cameras are shooting as quick as possible.

•Tons of bug fixes and performance improvements
In our bays, FCPX has been remarkably stable and fluid for a number of versions now. It’s great to see the FCPX team keeping vigilant on squashing remaining bugs and increasing overall stability. With each new release X gets more robust and battle-ready.

Hold off on updating until you’re about to begin a new Project for the easiest transition.

•The Bottom Line
We recommend of course as always, don’t do an update in the middle of a project if you can wait. Hold off on updating until you’re about to begin a new Project for the easiest transition. Our kudos to the FCPX team for hitting another major milestone. Now about that Send to Motion…
